With a simple mouse click or by using the assigned hotkey you can use Lightscreen to take a screenshot of the entire screen, just an area of the screen, or a window on the desktop. The application will then save the screenshot (as JPG, PNG, or BMP) and it will give it a name (something like screenshot.1, screenshot.2, and so on). Using Lightscreen is a very simple matter and you won’t have to part with your money for using the application.

Very little time will be spent on getting Lightscreen up and running on your PC. All you have to do is download an installer (a 5MB executable that won’t take long to download), run it, and then go through the steps presented by a setup wizard. In just a few clicks you will be done with installing Lightscreen on your PC in the language of your choice. Yes, Lightscreen provides support for multiple languages, not just English.

There are 4 buttons on the application’s interface.
To the left there’s a large button that says Screenshot. Click it and you will be presented with options for taking a screenshot of the whole screen, a region, or a window; you will also be presented with the option of opening the folder where the screenshots are saved.
To the right there are three smaller buttons: Options, Hide, and Quit.

There are numerous settings to play with from the Options menu: choose where the screenshots will be saved, select how the screenshots will be automatically named, pick an image format for the screenshot, choose to run Lightscreen at startup automatically, enable and change the hotkeys, choose if you want a Lightscreen icon in the system tray, pick a language for the interface, select the quality of the screenshot, and more.

Released under a GNU General Public license, Lightscreen is free software.

Lightscreen is free, it allows you to easily take screenshots, and it allows you to play with lots of options. So overall, it is a quite handy tool for taking screenshots.

Pros

Installing Lightscreen is an effortless process. Support for multiple languages is provided. Use hotkeys to take a screenshot: full screen, region, window. Pick one of several image formats for the screenshot. There are many options to play with. Lightscreen is free software.

Cons

None that I could think of.
